I romanzi gialli sono quasi sempre un bluff. Ma divertono il mondo, e spesso ci sono utili.
L'Ispettore Battle ne Il segreto di Chimneys

La Regina del Giallo, autrice prolificissima che anche coi suoi romanzi minori regala sempre piacevoli letture, è indubbiamente una delle mie scrittrici preferite! I libri della Christie sono stati i primi libri "da adulti" che ho letto, infatti ho iniziato a leggere questa autrice più o meno quando andavo alle medie... e tra letture e riletture varie, non ho ancora smesso! Non solo, quindi, entra di diritto nel gruppo dei miei autori preferiti, ma ne è, direi, la capostipite, quindi merita anche un posto di tutto rispetto! :D
Poiché la maggior parte dei suoi romanzi che ho letto in passato mi erano stati prestati, qualche tempo fa ho deciso di ricominciare a rileggerli (e leggerli per la prima volta, in qualche raro caso) in ordine di pubblicazione, e comprare a mano a mano quelli che mi mancano, così ho anche l'occasione di recensirli (perché quasi tutti li ho letti prima di aprire il blog)!

Biografia

Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller, Lady Mallowan, nota come Agatha Christie, nacque a Torquay (nella Contea di Devon) il 15 settembre 1890. La Christie è (ovviamente) famosa soprattutto per i suoi romanzi gialli, e per aver creato i personaggi di Hercule Poirot e Miss Jane Marple, ma ha scritto anche diversi romanzi rosa con lo pseudonimo di Mary Westmacott. E' la scrittrice britannica più tradotta al mondo, anche più di Shakespeare.
Nel 1914 si sposa con Archibald Christie, colonnello della Royal Flying Corps, per poi divorziare da lui nel 1926, mantenendo però il cognome perché ormai da sei anni il mondo aveva cominciato a conoscere "Agatha Christie" come autrice di gialli di grande successo.
Nel 1930 si sposa, per la seconda e ultima volta, con Max Mallowan, un archeologo.
Oltre ai tanti romanzi la Christie ha scritto anche delle opere teatrali. La più famosa è senz'altro The Mousetrap (Trappola per topi) che dal 1952 viene ininterrottamente rappresentata in un teatro londinese.
Agatha Christie muore a Wallingford, 12 gennaio 1976.
